Grommie… Daddy… Mama… Daddy… Yay!

(Claire wants more waffles.)
Alex: Do we have more waffles?
Daddy: She has more on her plate.
Alex: Tell her to eat it.
Daddy: What?
Alex: Tell her to eat it and then you eat yours. Can we play that game?

(Alex and Claire are watching the squirrel through the back door. Alex wants to go outside to see the squirrel.)
Daddy: If we opened the door, he'd run away, 'cause he thinks people are scary. And he thinks dogs are very scary.
(Pause.)
Alex: I'm not scary.

Alex: Let's jump, Claire. Let's jump. You wanna jump?
(Claire jumps with Alex.)

Claire: Uh wawa.
Claire (getting it): Ah get it.

Alex (to Claire): Get closer to me so I can laugh at you.

Alex: Claire, I'm sorry that I broke the track.

Alex: Daddy? Daddy?
Daddy: Yes, Alex.
Alex: I'm sorry that I broke the track.

Alex (playing with the toy clock): Tick tock, tick tock.

(Claire takes Alex’s dinosaur.)
Alex (whining): That’s my dinosaur. Claire has my dinosaur from the barber shop! She has my special treat.

Alex: Claire, you play on the stove, and I will play on a different stove, and Daddy, you play on the machine . . .
(Alex continues.)
Alex: . . . and I will talk on the telephone, and I will see if the clock was tocking, ticking tocking, and then I will eat after I get the stove off the (mumble). Okay?
Daddy: Okay.
Alex: You do that with me, okay, Daddy?

(Claire is making the monkey dance to the music.)
Claire: Uh dance.
Daddy: Yeah!
Claire: Monk!

(Alex gets another monkey and makes him dance too.)

Claire: Uh dancing!
Daddy: Yeah!
Claire: Monk!
Daddy: Yeah!

Alex’s monkey: I’m dancing on your face, Claire.

(The music stops.)
Alex: What happened?
(Claire restarts the music.)

Alex (swinging the monkey): The monkey’s swinging, Daddy.
Daddy: Yeah.
Alex: That’s how monkeys swing.

Alex: I fell down.
Daddy: You did?
Alex: Yeah, because I was spinning around with my monkey.
Daddy: Oh.
Alex: I fell down with my monkey.
(Claire lies on the floor with Alex. After a moment, Alex gets up.)
Alex: Let’s get up, Claire. You wanna get up? Let's get up from we fell down on the floor. Let’s get up and walk on the floor.
(Claire gets up.)
(Claire gets on her car.)
Alex: Bye Claire. You drive. See you later, my monkey’s gonna go (mumble).
(Alex walks off with his monkey.)
Claire: Ah monk. Bye. Bye.

Alex (walking into the other room): Claire. Drive the car down there with me. But be careful.
Claire: Ah-wah!
Alex (from the other room): I’m going for a walk now. My monkey wants to go for a walk now. I’ll be back in a minute, I’ll make dinner.
(Claire’s monkey once again dances to the music.)

(Alex has returned.)
Alex: Haha! Look at my monkey, Daddy!
Daddy: What about it?
Alex: He’s funny.
Daddy: Yeah.

(dinner time)

Claire: Uh fry.
(Mommy gives Claire a French fry.)
Claire: Hot.

(Alex eats a French fry.)
Alex: Yummy.
Alex: This is delicious, Mommy.

Alex: Is this for the French fries, Daddy? This sauce?
Daddy: Yes. It’s called ketchup.
Alex: Ketchup.

(Claire is eating French fries with ketchup.)
Claire: I like it.

Claire: Bakoo broccoli.

Alex: I like chicken.

Alex: Thanks, Daddy.
Daddy: What is it, buddy?
Alex: You helped me. And I said “Thanks, Daddy.”

Alex: I see your big broccoli.

Alex (picking up a piece of broccoli): Look at this broccoli! It’s upside-down!
Mommy: Silly broccoli.
Alex (putting the broccoli down): I’ll try a different one.

Claire: I want more fries. Please.

Alex: I don’t like this – stick, hanging down. In my mouth. I don’t like it.
Mommy: You don’t like what, honey?
Alex: That stick is hanging down, in my mouth.
Mommy: Drink some water, that might help. You might have something caught in your teeth.
(Alex drinks some water.)
Alex: It did help. Thanks, Daddy.
Daddy (smiling at Mommy): You’re welcome.

Alex: I’m gonna scream, Daddy.
Daddy: What?
Alex: I’m gonna scream.
Daddy: Please don’t.
(Claire screams.)
(Alex screams.)
Claire: I scream. I scream. I scream.
Claire: Ah!!! I scream.
Claire: Ah!!! I scream.
Claire: Ah!!! I scream.
Mommy: You’re silly.
Claire: Ah!!! I scream.
Mommy: You’re silly.
Alex: Claire, we don’t scream in the house.
Claire: Ah!!!
Alex: We scream outside.
Claire: Ah!!!

Alex: Reese was being silly at school today.

Alex: What’s that by the ketchup?
Mommy: Tartar sauce.
Alex: Whoa. Tartar sauce, okay. I don’t like tartar sauce.

Claire: All done. All done.
Mommy: You’re all done? Did you try your fish?
Claire: No. All done.

Mommy: You wanna sit here with us while we finish?
Claire: No. All done.
Mommy: Are you cute?
Claire: All done.
Mommy: Are you cute?
Claire: No. All done.
Mommy: Do you love Mommy?
Claire: No. All done.
Mommy: Do you love Daddy?
Claire: No.
Mommy: Do you love Grommie?
Claire: No.
Mommy: Um… Do you like school?
Claire: No.
Alex: You like school, Claire.
Mommy: I know. She’s saying "no" to everything.
Mommy: May I eat your French fries?
Claire: No.
Mommy: May I eat your fish?
Claire: No.
Mommy: Um… did you know I love you?
Claire: No.
Mommy: Um… are you smiling?
Claire: No.
Mommy: Is your nose running?
Claire: No.
Mommy: Do you need a tissue?
Claire: No.
Mommy: May I have your French fries?
Claire: No.
Mommy: Are you gonna eat them?
(Claire nods.)
Mommy: Yeah? Okay.
(Claire eats a French fry.)
Mommy: You silly girl.
Claire (giving a French fry to Mommy): Aw eat.
(Mommy eats the French fry.)
Mommy: Thank you.
(Claire laughs.)
(Claire gives Mommy another French fry.)

Claire: All done.
Claire: All done.
Claire: All done.
Claire: All done.
Mommy: You ready to get down?
(Claire nods.)

Mommy: Claire’s water.
Claire: Cuh’s. Uh Cuh’s.
Alex: Mine’s is right here.

(Mommy blows on Claire’s face.)
(Claire laughs.)
Claire (requesting a repeat): Ah foo.

Daddy: What’d you do at the barber shop?
Daddy: Okay, you don’t have to tell me.
(Alex kicks the table absently.)
Alex: Daddy, can I kick the table? Can I kick the table?
Daddy: No.

Alex: I like your haircut, Alex.
Alex (smiling): Thanks!
Daddy: What’d you watch?
Alex: I watched, um, a new show there. I watched – um – there was a monster on that show, but – he was nice. He was nice, and – and he put – that girl to bed. And… she went to bed. She went to bed, that girl went to bed. On the TV.
Mommy: You know what that movie was called?
Alex: Yeah.
Mommy: What?
(Pause.)
Mommy: You want me to tell you? “Monsters, Inc.”
Alex: Monsters, Inc.
Mommy: That’s right.

Claire: Grommie… Daddy… Mama… Daddy… Yay!
