Will you help me play tennis?
(Alex and Mommy are assembling Claire’s new crib.)
Daddy: What are you doing?
Alex: I'm trying to help Mommy.
Alex: Can I sleep in this bed? Please? Okay?
Alex: I helped you, Claire.
(lunch time, and Daddy is watching Wimbledon)
Alex: That's baseball. You're watching tennis?
Alex: Get that carrot, Grommie. I dropped it on the floor and you have to eat it. I tell Grommie. He can't get it ‘cause he's lying on the carpet. He can't get it ‘cause he has to go run to it. ‘Cause he can't get it. ‘Cause it’s too far.
Alex: Will you? Will you? Will you? Will you help me play tennis?
Daddy: Yeah.
Alex: ‘Cause I can't play with Mommy.
Alex: I couldn’t go down the big slide ‘cause Mommy told me it’s time to go home.
Alex: Will you push stools with me?
Daddy: No, I'm watching tennis.
Alex: Can I push stools by myself, and Grommie will see what I'm doing, okay?
Alex: Your coffee’s turning around, Daddy?
Daddy: Yes, it is.
Alex: And you’re gonna drink it?
Daddy: Yes, I am.
Daddy: Alex, if you had three hundred dollars, what would you buy?
Alex: A card for Claire.
(leaving for PetsMart)
Alex: Grommie’s not going. Grommie’s not going to the animal store. Grommie doesn’t like alligators. He doesn't like alligators. He likes dogs. He likes other dogs. He likes his friend Unkley.
(in the car)
Alex: All my stuff is on the floor, ‘cause I have to take them to the animal store, ‘cause I have to see some animals.
(pulling in to the store)
Alex: It’s okay Claire, you’re not scared, you’re not scared of the alligator.
(at PetsMart)
Alex: Hi, mouse.
Alex: Hi, kitty.
Alex: There's another kitty. And another kitty.
Alex (to a kitty): What's your name?
Alex: I wanna see the alligator.
Alex: I see a frog! I see a frog! I see a frog!
Alex: It’s okay, Claire. You’re not scared. It’s just a alligator.
Alex: There’s a alligator! It’s okay, Claire. It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s okay.
Alex: The fish gonna go in – ah! I see a big one!!
Alex: I wanna see some dogs.
Alex: There's one. And another dog. And another dog. And another dog.
Alex: There's a black dog and a brown dog.
Mommy: That's right.
Alex: And a white dog.
Alex: Where's the white dog?
Alex: Where’d they go?
Alex: Can I go in here?
Alex: There's a bird and there’s a bird. Where's the – I see another bird. Where's some more birds?
Alex: That was a dog barkin’.
Alex: That's a big fish.
Alex: Blow bubbles! One, two, three, four, five, six, blow bubbles!
Alex: We’re done lookin’ at animals. We’re done. Now we have to buy some food for Grommie.
Alex: Can I get a ball for Grommie?
Alex: Daddy, Claire. That’s Daddy ‘cause that’s Mommy and Claire and Grommie and ngyah ngyah.
Alex: I gave Grommie his ball back ‘cause he got it in his mouth ‘cause he like his ball ‘cause I got it from the store.
(Alex and Daddy are discussing his second-tier stuffed animals.)
Alex: They're – they're – they're not talking to me. They're angry. ‘Cause Elly and Bobo are – they're my friends.
Alex: I wanna make a cave.
Alex: Close your feet.
Alex: Close your eyes.
Alex: Can I sleep with you?
Daddy: Yeah.
Alex: Maybe I have to go in the cave. ‘Cause I can't sleep. ‘Cause I have to wake up. ‘Cause you have to growl at me.
