(Mommy is getting Alex out of bed.)

Alex: Now I don’t have any clean sheets.

Alex: I have a cough, a fever, and a runny nose.

Alex: I don’t have a fever.
Mommy: Oh good.
Alex: But I have a little fever.

Alex: Don’t wake up Claire, Mommy. Don’t wake up Claire. Be very quiet in the bathroom.

Alex: Now my runny nose came back. May I have a tissue, please?

Alex: I got the booger out. I got those crusties out. Now I’m gonna get the runny nose out.

Alex: May you watch too, on um Charlie Brown Christmas please?

Alex: Oh! Is it still dark?!
Mommy: Yeah, it’s cloudy.
Alex: Oh, cloudy. It’s cloudy today.

Mommy: What books do you want?
Alex: Um, I don’t have Charlie Brown Christmas book. I don’t have that book.
Mommy: Yeah, I don’t know if there is that book.
Alex: But I have Charlie Brown Thanksgiving book.
Mommy: Yeah.
Alex: But I don’t have the pumpkin patch book.

(Alex is watching A Charlie Brown Christmas.)
Alex: Franklin’s not in this one.

(Alex leaves the room to use the potty.)
Claire (pointing after him): Uh pee-pee. Uh pee-pee.

(Alex and Daddy are running around downstairs, with Alex pushing his car.)

(Alex stops to talk to Daddy.)
Alex: We’re gonna go to Curious George house, name… man in yellow hat, and you know who’s gonna be there? Elmo!
(Alex runs. Daddy follows.)

(Alex stops to talk to Daddy.)
Alex: Daddy! Daddy, I need to tell you something.
Daddy: Okay.
Alex: When we get there, who else is gonna be there? … Grover! And Count, and Ernie and Bert!
(Alex runs. Daddy follows.)

(Alex stops to talk to Daddy.)
Alex: Daddy?
Daddy: Yeah?
Alex: We’re done with this house right now. We’re gonna go to Curious George’s house.
Daddy: Okay.
Alex: Know who else is here?
Daddy: Who?
Alex: Um… Cookie Monster!
(Alex runs. Daddy follows.)

(Alex stops to talk to Daddy.)
Alex: You know who else is gonna be at someone’s house?
Daddy: Who?
Alex: Hm… Ha… I think someone’s gonna be at another house Cat in the Hat’s house! So who’s gonna be there? Hmmm…
Claire: Hmmm…
Alex: Rosie! And Thomas and James, and Henry and Percy!
(Alex runs. Daddy follows.)

Daddy: Yes.
Alex (going very slowly): Slow. I don’t wanna go to Cat in the Hat’s house.
Alex (running again): Fast! Faster! I’m faster going to chase you, Daddy!

Daddy: Maybe we can find a Charlie Brown book.
Alex: How ‘bout a Linus book?
Daddy: Yeah, we can look for a Linus book.
Alex: Or a Lucy book, or a Sally book, or a Peppermint Patty book, or a Marcie book, or a Franklin book, or … That’s it.

(Alex and Daddy are in the car, following Mommy’s car.)

Alex: Mommy went down there, we have to chase her!
Daddy: Yeah, we can chase her.
Alex: The car’s going too fast, we can’t catch her at all.

Alex: She’s going down that hill!

Alex (laughing): Wait, Mommy!

Alex: The hand coughed into my face.

(nap time, overheard over the monitor)
Alex: I can't even, I can't even - I can’t even stop coughing.

Daddy: Yay! Virginia won the national championship!
Daddy: Can you say “yay”?
Alex: Yay.
Daddy: That’s a soccer game.
Alex: Can I do it?
Daddy: Do what?
Alex: Can I do the soccer thing and ride in a ship?

(dinner time)

Alex: Talk about little pig, was a monster, and the – and the mo – and the monster, and he was scared. Can you talk about that?

Alex (holding a carrot): Science Kid is in here, peeking out here. I can see his foot, but I can’t see his face!
Daddy: Oh.
Alex: Oh he splashed into my water.

(bed time, overheard over the monitor)
Alex: Lucy said “Get rid of that stupid blanket.”
Alex: Then Lucy was a little bit happy. Then Charlie Brown was happy, he was a little bit happy, then he was a little bit sad.
Alex: Then he talked to Linus.
