Daddy, why do you say the wrong things?

(Daddy picks up Claire from school.)
Claire (running to Daddy): I peed in the potty!!

Alex (excited): Uncle Ray is here!

Alex: Why is Uncle Ray here?

Alex: I don’t want Uncle Ray to get me.

(Alex is playing trains.)
Grandma: What is that train?
Alex: That’s a coach!
Grandma: A coach?
Alex: Yeah. That’s a flatbed to put things on.

(Claire is sitting with Daddy. Suddenly she gets up.)
Claire: Catch me, and run!
(Claire runs away.)

(Alex is watching a home movie of himself at age 22 months.)
Alex: That – that little boy likes to do fun things.
Daddy: Yeah.
Alex: Mommy and Daddy would play with him.
Daddy: Yeah.
Alex: They would take care of him.

(dinner)

(Claire is upset with Daddy.)
Alex: Daddy, why do you say the wrong things?
Daddy: I don’t know.
Alex: Just… just… don’t do anything.

(Mommy and Claire are playing with refrigerator letters.)
Mommy: Can you find the A? It’s red.
Claire: This the A.
Mommy: That’s right! Good job!
Claire: And this is a L.
Mommy: That’s right!
Claire: This a sss!
Mommy: That’s right!
Daddy: What is it? A “C”?
Mommy: No, she said “sss”! For S! That’s right!

(Claire wants to write her name.)
Mommy: Can you find a C? Do you need a C?
(Claire grabs the C.)
Mommy: That’s right, Claire!

Mommy: Now you need the R. The R is green.
(Claire grabs the R.)
Mommy: That’s right!
