Alex: What do crabs be in? An apartment house?
Daddy: A what?
Alex: An apartment house?
Daddy: Um, no.
Alex: Yeah they do.
Alex: What does – what does crab say?
Daddy: They don’t say anything.
Alex: Are they quiet?
Daddy: Yes.
Alex: Perfect thing for me. I will bring it home and see what it was. I will show my mommy what it was for me.
Alex: Can you climb way up there on the ceiling? Can you do that?
Daddy: No, I can't. Can you?
Alex: I don't have my stairs.
Piece of Life Cereal: I wanna go outside.
Alex: No I eat you so you can’t go outside.
Alex: It’s Wednesday.
Daddy: It’s Sunday.
Alex: It’s Sunday. Wednesday is on – um… Wednesday is on… Wednesday is… Um Wednesday is in a few minutes. It’s Friday and the trash truck is gonna come.
Alex: I pushed the button and it bumped into me, and then I tried again.
Alex: I'm home. I just went to the bookstore.
Alex: There's a little spider on the train table.
(looking out the window and watching the neighbors)
Alex: The girl doesn’t have any toys?
Daddy: Yeah, she doesn’t need any toys, she’s just playing in the grass.
Alex: There’s a bike.
Daddy: Yeah, she has a bike if she wants. She likes her bike.
Alex: I don’t have a bike.
Daddy: No, you don’t have a bike. We’ll get you a bike when you’re bigger. I’ll show you how to ride it.
Alex: Nana and Pop have a little bike for me.
Daddy: They do? Did you ride it?
Alex: Yeah.
Daddy: Oh boy!
Alex: You didn’t go.
(in bed for nap)
Alex: Mommy will come in, and I will talk to her, and she will talk to me, and I will talk to her, and she will give me a kiss, and I will say “go because I need to sleep,” okay Daddy?
(Alex is crying.)
Daddy: You wanna tell me why you’re so sad?
Alex: My eyes.
Daddy: Your eyes?
Alex: They’re wet.
Alex: Claire, you’re not going. We’re gonna leave you here. You can cry here.
(Daddy is wearing a jacket for the first time this fall.)
Alex (laughing): What are you having? What do you have?
Alex (laughing): What’s this? What do you look like? What do you look like?
Alex: Stay here Grommie. You’re not going. You don’t have a seat in – in Daddy’s car.
Alex (laughing): You have clean eyes.
(Daddy is watching TV.)
Alex: I need something to watch. This is not a show for me. I need a different show.
Alex: I need some football to watch.
Daddy: You need some football to watch?
Alex: Yeah. I wanna watch football.
Alex: Monster’s tryin’ to get you, Daddy!
Daddy: Oh no!
Alex: Monster’s trying to get you, Mommy!
Mommy: Oh no!
Alex: Tickle tickle!
Alex: Monster’s trying to get you, Claire!
Alex: Tickle tickle!
Daddy: Daddy cut the grass. Doesn’t it look good?
Alex: Yeah. Thank you for cutting the grass. Now we can see if there’s ‘squitos in the yard.
Daddy: We can see if what’s in the yard?
Alex: ‘Squitos.
Daddy: Skittles?
Alex: ‘Squitos.
Alex: I want some more sauce.
Daddy: I want a million dollars.
Alex: You don't need a million dollars.
Daddy: You don't need more sauce.
Alex: I want some more sauce please.
Daddy (getting the sauce): Oh, how nice of you to say please! Here you go.
Daddy: I want a million dollars please.
Alex: No.
Claire: Ball.
Mommy: Ball.
Claire: Ball.
Mommy: Ball.
Claire: Ball. Ball. Baaaaaaaaall!
Alex: Truck.
Claire: Truck.
Claire: Truck.
Claire: Truck.
Claire: Truck.
Claire: Truck.
Mommy: Good job. Alex, can you get her to say “car”?
Alex: Car.
Claire: Gwoh-woh.
Alex: I wanna see Alex saying "I see! I see!"
Alex: Light turn on.
(Daddy turns the light on.)
Alex: Light turn off.
(Daddy turns the light off.)
Alex: Light turn on.
Daddy: Okay, but after this we’re gonna keep it on, okay?
Alex: Okay.
(Daddy turns the light on.)
Alex: Light, thank you for turning on.
(Claire’s bedtime)
Alex: I wanna give Claire a hug and a kiss.
Alex: I love you, Claire.
Alex: There's a poss-mo-man in my house. A poss-mo-man’s putting Claire to sleep.
Daddy: What does a poss-mo-man look like?
Alex: It’s right there. See it?
Daddy: No. There's no poss-mo-man in here.
Daddy: What does a poss-mo-man do?
Alex: Um, it jumps, and it goes away when they play.
(playing house)
The Girl: Oh what's that big elephant on my house!
The Girl: Maybe I’ll climb up that house and get that elephant off.
The Girl: Oh! A elephants coming! A elephant’s coming in the house!
