(Alex's butter melted on his waffle.)
Alex: Hey! It melted!
Daddy: Yeah.
Alex: It's a gas!
Daddy: It's a liquid.
Alex: A liquid?
(Alex laughs.)
Claire: We talked about that at dinner!
Alex: Mommy?
Mommy: Yeah?
Alex: Daddy got a um -- Daddy was gonna get a waffle -- and it popped up and fell right on the counter!
(Claire comes home from school and proudly displays her bead necklace.)
Claire: I sat down criss-cross applesauce.
(Claire drew a picture of a purple sheep.)
Daddy: And purple's your favorite color!
Claire: Yeah. And black.
Mommy: What are your favorite colors, Alex?
Alex: Green, red, and pink!
Alex: And my favorite letters are A, L, and E, and X!
Alex: Daddy, do you wanna play butterflies? In our butterfly house, eating oranges, and flowers?
(Mommy and Daddy are talking about investments.)
Alex: What's investments?
Daddy: Investments are what you put your money in when you're not using it.
Alex: Oh. We need a piggy bank!
Claire (to Daddy): When you go to work, you get money!
(Claire and Alex are playing trains.)
Claire: But Thomas, gave something a peanut! Gave a people a peanut!
Alex: Not me Thomas, 'cause I'm allergic.
