Daddy, can you make it not be hot?

(Alex is eating breakfast, and Mommy is getting ready to leave for work.)
Alex: I need a napkin, Daddy, because I want to give Mommy a hug and a kiss.

(Claire sees Daddy putting his coat on.)
Claire: Uh go to school, minute.

(Daddy, Alex, and Claire are watching two workmen cut up trees next door and load the sticks into their truck. While they watch one man stomp on sticks in the truck, the other man goes into the back yard to get more sticks.)
Claire: Other man going uh sticks.

Claire: Where Grommie is.
Daddy: Grommie’s right there.
Claire: Oh.

(Mommy comes home.)
Claire (pointing to the globe that Grandma brought earlier that day): Uh ball! Uh touch it!

Mommy: Whose bag is that?
Claire: Uh Grandma’s bag.

Mommy: It’s not a ball, it’s Earth. This represents where we live. You know what “represent” means?
Alex: Yeah.
(Mommy laughs.)

Mommy: Here’s where we live, right there.
Alex: And where does Virginia live?
Mommy: Oh, right there too.
Alex: And where does Daddy live?
Mommy: Right there too!

Alex: I wanna stay with Daddy, Daddy. Not Daddy Daddy. Uh, Mommy.

(Alex and Daddy are sitting in the sun on the front steps.)
Alex: Daddy, can you make it not be hot?
Daddy: What do you want me to do?
Alex: I want you to make it not be hot.

(playing in the yard)

(Claire is weeding with Daddy.)
Claire (to Mommy): Uh help.
Mommy: Are you helping, Claire?
Claire: Yeah. Daddy.

Claire: Uh have it. Ball.
Daddy: You want the ball?
Claire: Yah.

Claire: Dat!
Claire: Dat!
Daddy: Hose. Its a hose.
Claire: Hose.
Daddy: Yeah.
Claire: Uh touch it.
Daddy: You can touch it.
(Claire touches the hose.)
Claire: Uh touch. Hose!

Claire: Where Alex. Is.
