Daddy: Alex, what did you do today?
(Alex doesn’t respond.)
Daddy: Can you tell me about your day?
(Alex doesn’t respond.)
Daddy: Okay, never mind.
(Daddy waits, but Alex doesn’t respond.)
Daddy: You don’t want to tell me, that’s okay. I think I’ll ask Claire about her day.
Alex: Enhh! Ennnhh! I – I – I wanna tell you!
Daddy: Okay.
Alex: I played at school, and I saw Grandma, and I saw her car, and then Grandma came to our house, and after the other nap Grandma was still here, and I played with flowers with her, and gave Grommie a bath, and I saw Daddy, and I came inside, and Grandma came inside to get a towel, and I came inside, and I saw Daddy.
Daddy: Thank you Alex! I really liked that. Thank you for telling me about your day!

Alex: Do you wanna play trains?


(Alex is lying on the floor beside the train table.)
Daddy: Why are you lying on the floor?
Alex: I’m trying to lie on the floor.
Daddy: Well you’re succeeding. But why are you lying on the floor?
Alex: I need to lie on the floor for a few minutes.
