(Mommy is sick, so Claire and Alex are drawing pictures for her.)
Claire: Mommy, since you like purple, I’m gonna give you pink.
Claire: You like flowers, so you have to hold a flower.
(Claire shows Daddy her picture.)
Claire: Daddy, it’s from Claire, and it’s for Mommy, ‘cause she is feeling sick.
Daddy: Oh, you’re so sweet.
Claire: And look on the front.
Daddy: Oh, what’s she holding?
Claire: She’s holding, her pretty flower.
Daddy: Oh!
(Claire and Alex are doing the Spider-Man jigsaw puzzle.)
Claire: Spider-Man is my friend because I like Spider-Man.
Claire: These are a hard puzzle but I can do it.
(A neighbor comes to the door selling Girl Scout cookies, and Daddy buys one box. After the Girl Scout leaves, Claire says…)
Claire: Daddy, I have a secret.
Daddy: You do? What’s your secret?
(Daddy leans down so Claire can whisper in his ear.)
Claire (whispering very quietly): We have a peanut allergy.
(Claire and Alex are getting ready to go to Neer’s birthday party.)
Claire (sadly): When is it my birthday, it’s taking a long time!
Alex: That’s what she always says when there’s a birthday.
Alex: Mine’s is the green one, yours is the red one.
Claire: No, yours is the green one, my is the red one.
Claire: Mommy, when she’s a girl, when she sees a different girl, she loves you.
