Why did the cowboy sing a sad, sad song?

(playing trains)

Claire (singsong): Around the bend
Claire (singsong): Around the bend
Claire: Yay.

Claire (being silly): Uh being silly.

Claire: My trains. Rosie, Duck, a- and James. My trains.

Claire (walking backwards): Uh walk backwards.

(Daddy is singing karaoke, and just finished singing “Every Rose Has Its Thorn”.)
Alex: Why did the cowboy sing a sad, sad song?
Daddy (laughing): I don’t know.
Alex: Why did he?
Daddy: I don’t know.
Alex: Because he was lost?
Daddy: Yeah, because he was lost.
Alex: Why was he lost?
Daddy: I don’t know!

(At school, Alex learned about "the big city again" and now Alex is telling Daddy what he learned about taxis.)
Daddy: Do they fly up in the sky?
Alex: No, they drive!
Daddy: Oh. And then do people get in them?
Alex: Yeah. You have to wave your hand and then they stop.

(Daddy hangs up the phone.)
Alex: Who’s Daddy talkin’ to?
Mommy: Uncle Ed.
Alex: Is Uncle Ed gonna be at the park?
Mommy: Mm-hm.
Alex: And Kirk?
Mommy: Mm-hm.
Alex: And Meg?
Mommy: Mm-hm.
Alex: And Meg?
Mommy: Mm-hm.
Alex: And Virginia?
Mommy: Mm-hm.
Alex: And Uncle Jimmy?
Mommy: Mm-hm.
Alex: And Aunt Sheridan?
Mommy: Mm-hm. Actually I don’t know about Uncle Jimmy. I assume he’ll be there.
Alex: And aunts and uncles?

Alex: Can I play with you, Claire?
Claire: No.
Alex: Well then I'm playing shopping carts.

Alex: I almost hit my head on the wall. That was close.

(Alex looks out the window, and sees the boys playing in the yard next door.)
Alex: Is that Mari’s house?
Mommy: No.
Alex: But he looks like Mari.
Mommy: Yeah, well he has dark skin like Mari. But he's not Mari.
