(breakfast)
Alex (to Daddy, unprompted): Your tummy has a goose in your tummy.
(Claire goes into the pantry and closes the door behind her.)
(Pause.)
(Claire comes out of the pantry.)
Claire (grinning): Hi!
Daddy: Hi Claire!
Claire: Buh-bye.
(Claire goes back into the pantry.)
(Claire comes out of the pantry.)
Claire (grinning): Hi!
Daddy: Hi Claire!
Claire: Buh-bye.
(Claire goes back into the pantry.)
(Claire is twirling her fingers and walking around the kitchen.)
Claire: Uh flying a airplane! Daddy, uh flying a airplane!
Daddy: Are you flying a airplane?
Claire: Yeah!
Alex: Daddy? That's 2 and P.
Daddy: That’s right! Good job!
Alex: That's for remember where you park.
Alex: Daddy? Watch this cool - this cool trick.
Claire: Grommie got a bone!
(Claire is playing blocks.)
Claire: Uh knock it down. ‘Kay? Uh knock it down. ‘Kay?
(Note: Still playing blocks; not talking on the phone.)
Claire: Hello Grandma, hi! Bye Grandma.
Claire: Uh knock it down. Kay? Uh knock it.
(Claire knocks it down.)
Claire: Daddy, uh knock it down. See?
Daddy: Good job!
Claire: Uh knock it down again.
(A little later, Claire starts to put the blocks away.)
Claire: Uh put it away. Uh put it away, Daddy.
Daddy: Okay, you put it away.
Claire: All done.
(Alex is still eating snack; Claire has finished, and starts to push a stroller.)
Alex: Okay, we can play strollers. Hey Claire, I need to eat the rest of my strawberries, okay?
Claire: ‘Kay.
(Alex eats a strawberry; Claire waits.)
Claire (to Alex): Eat another one.
(Claire and Alex are pushing strollers. Claire stops to pick up the toy phone.)
Claire (on the phone): Uh go grocery store. Uh muh grocery store. (Mumble.)
Alex (overacting): Oh no! We ran out of peas!
(Alex runs off.)
Claire (still on the phone): Ran uh peas!
Claire: Bye Grandma. Bye.
(Claire hangs up the phone.)
Claire (smiling): Grommie licked my bottom, right there.
Claire (looking out the window): Grommie’s yard! Silly Grommie.
(Claire laughs.)
Claire (smiling): Uh say “silly Grommie”.
Daddy: Ring! Ring!
(Claire smiles.)
Daddy: Ring!
(Claire smiles.)
Daddy: Ring!
(Claire giggles.)
Daddy: Do you hear that ringing?
Claire: Yeah. Ring!
(Daddy laughs.)
Claire: Uh Daddy say “ring” again.
Daddy: Ring!
(Claire picks up the toy phone.)
Claire: Hello! Hi Grandma! Bye.
(Claire hangs up.)
(lunch time)
Claire: Uh say bye to water, Daddy?
Daddy: What do you wanna say?
Claire: Say bye to water.
Daddy: Say bye to the water, then.
Claire (to her water): Bye water!
Claire: Silly Mommy. Don't go upstairs.
Mommy (to Claire): How did you get so silly?
Alex: Mommy and Daddy made me.
(dinner time)
Alex: I'm a peach. Hey Daddy?
Daddy: Yes, Alex?
(Alex is holding his arms straight out in front of him, and has his eyes closed.)
Alex: I'm a green bean!
Daddy (laughing): Good job!
Alex: Is that how a green bean is?
Daddy: Yeah, exactly!
Claire: Uh green bean!
(Claire holds her arms out.)
Alex (to Claire): You're a green bean. Close your eyes.
(Claire closes her eyes.)
Alex: Green beans don't have eyes.
(Alex laughs.)
Claire (to Mommy): Uh do Mommy.
(Mommy becomes a green bean.)
Claire (to Daddy): Uh do Daddy.
(Daddy becomes a green bean.)
Daddy: I'm a green bean!
Alex: Green beans don't talk.
Daddy: Claire, what does chicken say?
Claire: Ruff ruff.
Daddy: Silly. What does chicken say?
Claire: Talk.
Daddy: Talk?
Claire: Yeah.
Alex: It says, "Bock bock, hi, I'm Daddy."
(Alex laughs.)
Alex: It starts with C.
Mommy: What starts with C?
Alex: Cowboy and carrots.
Mommy: Yeah!
(Alex is trying to twist his hand around at an impossible angle.)
Alex: Um, how can I turn my hand over?
Mommy: Well, there's only so far it can go.
Alex: Look, I can't turn my hand over.
Daddy: Yeah, I don't think you're supposed to.
Alex: Why?
Daddy: It doesn't go that way.
Alex: I wanna do a different duck. I don't like this duck.
(Alex is walking around with Daddy's Nintendo DS in its case.)
Alex: I'm going to work, Daddy.
(Claire walks around holding the remote control.)
Alex: We're going to work.
Daddy: You're going to work?
Claire: Yeah.
Alex: Yeah.
Daddy: What are you gonna do there?
Alex: We're gonna work there, and, work a lot!
Daddy: Okay.
