Because after one hundred comes two hundred! It's like you're counting again, but instead of one number, it's three numbers!

Alex: I know why it's called one hundred.
Daddy: Why's that?
Alex: Because after one hundred comes two hundred!  It's like you're counting again, but instead of one number, it's three numbers!

Alex: Since numbers do a lot of things, they add up numbers, and they get -- well -- just, just -- well -- the hundreds, and the thousands, like you're counting, like, one hundred, two hundred, three hundred… and, um --
Alex: Daddy?  When you get to those two hundred and three hundred, do you have to count all the way up to ninety-nine again?
Daddy: Mm-hm.
Alex: No one ever has counted all the way up to a thousand before?
Daddy: I bet somebody has.
Alex: Who?
Daddy: I don't know.
Alex: No one has.  That would take like a whole day.  Well, what's a bigger number than a thousand?
Daddy: Ten thousand.
Alex: Ten thousand?  Well, ten thousand would take overnight!

Alex: Well, if you counted up to twenty thousand, it would take overnight and then the next day!

Alex: A million?!  That would take the whole week!

Alex: A thousand and a thousand are a million.
Claire: Ninety and ninety are bigger.
Alex: Yeah, but -- ninety and ninety might take years.

Claire: What is, uh, two and two?
Alex: Two and two?  I already told you.  No I didn't.  That is… uh… the number four!

Claire: What's thirteen and thirteen?
Daddy: Twenty-six.
Claire: Thirteen and thirteen are twenty-six.
Alex: Did, you know, Claire?  That twenty-six letters are in the alphabet.
Claire: Twenty-six?!
Alex: Yeah.  1, A, 2, B, 3, C, 4, D, 5, E, 6, F, 7, G…
Claire: Daddy?  Did you know that twenty-six letters are in the alphabet?
Daddy: Yeah, neat!
Alex: What comes after G?  I forget.  H!

Alex: H, 8, I, 9, J, 10, K, 11.
Alex: Uh, Claire?  Did you know that K is eleven?  And um, after K comes…
Alex: L.  L 12.  Claire, are you listening to me?
Claire: Yeah.
Alex: L 12.  Um…
Claire: Alex, did you know that doggies, sniff, on your head?
(Claire laughs.)
Alex: Um, Daddy, what comes after L?
Daddy: M.
Alex: Um, L 12.  M, 13.  N, 14.  O, 15.  P, 16.  Um…
Alex: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOP.  Q… what was, um, P again?  16.  Uh, Q, 17.  R, 18.  S -- what comes after R?
Daddy: S.
Alex: S, um, 19.  Um, T, 20.  Um.  Then uh, comes… U?
Daddy: Yep.
Alex: U 21.  V 22.  Um.  W 23.  And um, X 24.  And… um.  Y 25.  And Z 26!
Claire: Whoa!
Claire: See, Daddy?
Daddy: Yeah!
Alex: Twenty-six letters in the alphabet.

Claire: Alex, after school, can we play dollhouse?  The dollhouse?  And we have to eat… the um… the, dolls?

Claire: But Alex I'm so excited because I get to do calendar, and I haven't done that before.

(Claire is sitting with her baby doll.)
Claire (to Daddy, smiling): I'm playing with my baby.
