(Claire and Alex are eating breakfast and watching Caillou.)
Claire: Daddy, one day can we set up a bowler, then maybe I, can… throw it really hard and knock ‘em all down.
Caillou: You’re silly, Daddy!
Claire: Our daddy is silly!
Claire: One day can we draw some people?
Daddy: What?
Claire: One day can we draw something on the sidewalk when we’re going somewhere?
Daddy: Yeah.
(Claire holds up her red vitamin.)
Claire: Daddy, um… roar white one – no… um…
(Claire opens her mouth wide. Apparently she already ate the white one.)
Claire: Roar white one.
Alex: I wish I would stop getting these tongue sores.
Daddy: Me too.
(Claire wants to go to the doctor with Mommy and Alex.)
Claire: But Mommy? I won’t touch anything.
Mommy: Ohhh.
Alex: I’m sorry but you have to go to school. I can’t. My tongue hurts so bad.
Claire: Why can’t doctors fix colds?
Mommy: That’s a good question, Claire.
Claire: Why?
Mommy: Well, because cold is a special type of germ, that medicines don’t work on.
Claire: Oh.
Mommy: They’re called viruses. It’s a virus. Can you say that?
Alex: And when you’re sick, Claire? You can’t go outside.
Alex: One day I had a virus. Remember when I threw up on our rug? A long long time ago. It wasn’t that one with the ovals, it was the square one. You remember that one?
Claire: A long time ago, Grommie throw up, on, aside, my room, right?
Alex: And after I threw up, then Grommie threw up.
Mommy: You have a good memory, Alex.
Alex: Well, I can think of everything at the same time, did you know that?
Alex: Things go away after I think them for a minute.
Mommy: Oh, okay.
Alex: They’re going so fast that I can hardly think.
Alex: Sometimes it thinks fast. And sometimes it thinks slow.
Alex: Mommy? Sometimes – sometimes – sometimes my brain thinks fast, and sometimes it thinks slow.
Mommy: Oh, okay.
Alex: When I’m sleeping a lot, well, it can think very slowly, because it’s about to get to sleep.
Mommy: That’s good.
Alex: Well, and sometimes in the morning, it thinks slowly.
Alex: I make sure that I do enough TV, and not eat too many sweet things, and… I try to get lots of exercise so I can be healthy.
Mommy: Good.
Alex: And also I try to get lots of sleep.
Claire: Alex, when your tongue feels better, you can eat the waffle, the waffle big, when your tongue feels better, okay?
Alex (very sad about his tongue sores): I wanna go back to normal food and talk regular.
Daddy (singing): Little boxes on a hillside, little boxes made of ticky tacky
Daddy (singing): Little boxes on a hillside, and they all look just the same.
Daddy (singing): There’s a pink one, and a green one, and a blue one, and a yellow one
Daddy (singing): And they’re all made out of ticky tacky, and they all look just the same.
Alex: Except for the colors.
